Makita concrete core cutters for SDS-Max rotary hammers, in a range of diameters. SDS-Max shank, for cutting clean round holes through concrete, block and masonry.

What they are for

Services. Soil pipe, ducting, extract, conduit and drainage all need a clean round hole through a wall or slab, and a core cutter gives you one without breaking out half the surrounding concrete the way hammering through with a chisel would.

Choosing and using one

• Check the shank. SDS-Max only — these will not fit an SDS-Plus hammer, and a smaller hammer would not drive them anyway.
• Match the diameter to the pipe plus clearance, not to the pipe itself. You need room to make good around it.
• Use the centre pin to start, then remove it once the crown has bitten.
• Scan before you cut. Rebar and services inside a wall are the real risk, and a core cutter will not survive hitting steel.
• Ease off as you break through the far face, or you will blow out a crater on the other side.
