A planer removes thin layers of timber to level surfaces, fit doors and shave edges. A router cuts grooves, rebates, edge profiles and hinge recesses using interchangeable bits. A trimmer is a compact router for trimming laminate and edges, and a plate joiner cuts slots for biscuit joints. Quality bits and blades make a big difference to the finish.

How to Choose the Right Tool

  • Planing width and depth – 82mm is a common planer width; check maximum cut depth per pass.
  • Collet size – 1/4" and 6mm suit trimmers and light routing, while 1/2" collets take larger bits for heavier work.
