LXT, XGT or CXT: Which Makita Platform?
Makita runs three cordless platforms, and the batteries do not cross between them. This is the decision that matters, because it is far harder to change later than the tool itself.
- 18V LXT – the main platform and by far the largest tool range. If you are starting from nothing and doing ordinary household and renovation work, start here.
- 40V max XGT – higher power for heavy drilling, demolition and outdoor equipment. A separate system with its own batteries and chargers, not an upgrade to LXT.
- 12V max CXT – compact and light, for tight spaces, overhead work and long periods holding the tool.
