Bosch vs DeWalt: Which Cordless Platform Should You Buy in Singapore?
Bosch vs DeWalt: the short answer
Buy Bosch Professional if your work is concrete-heavy or you want more tool for your money. Buy DeWalt if you transport tools daily and want the best modular storage system on the market.
These two are closer than most comparisons. Both are professional-grade, both have a single 18V battery platform that scales, and in Singapore both sit in a similar price bracket. The decision usually comes down to what your day looks like rather than which tool is better.
First, the Bosch trap
Bosch sells two separate ranges and they do not share batteries:
- Bosch Professional (blue) — the trade range.
- Bosch Home & Garden (green) — the DIY range.
If you are comparing against DeWalt, you are comparing against blue. A green battery will not run a blue tool, and buyers who start green and later want professional tools have to begin again. Our Bosch Singapore range is the professional line.
The battery systems
Bosch Professional
- 18V — one battery system across the whole blue range.
- ProCORE18V — high-performance packs that fit the same tools but deliver far more current.
- BITURBO — the high-power brushless line built to run on ProCORE, which is how Bosch competes with higher-voltage tools while staying on 18V.
DeWalt
- 18V / 20V MAX — the same battery under two labels. A 20V MAX tool takes an 18V pack. The naming confuses almost everyone at first.
- XR — the brushless, higher-performance line.
- PowerStack — pouch-cell packs, smaller and lighter than standard XR with more power, fitting the same tools.
- FlexVolt — a 54V pack that drops to 18V automatically in an 18V tool.
Both brands have solved the same problem in similar ways: keep one platform, make the battery do the heavy lifting. Neither forces you into a second system the way Makita's separate 40V XGT does.
Where Bosch wins
Concrete. The GBH rotary hammer range is the benchmark for SDS-Plus, and if hammer drilling is a large part of your week it is a legitimate reason to pick the platform around it.
Value. Bosch generally gives more tool per dollar at the entry and middle of the range. Prices current at the time of writing:
- Bosch GSB 18V-65 Professional brushless impact drill driver with L-Case — S$147.00
- Bosch GSB 18V-90C Professional combi impact drill (bare unit) — S$217.00
Range, slightly. We stock 239 Bosch products against 120 DeWalt products.
Where DeWalt wins
Storage, decisively. TOUGHSYSTEM and T-STAK lock together, stack with each other, and survive being thrown in and out of a van every day. Bosch's L-BOXX is good; DeWalt's system is better developed and tougher. If your tools live in a vehicle, this is not a minor point.
Batteries. PowerStack is genuinely clever — noticeably smaller and lighter in the hand for the same work, which matters over a long day or overhead.
Durability reputation on site. DeWalt built its name on taking abuse, and among Singapore site contractors that reputation holds.
- DeWalt DCD805E1T brushless hammer drill driver set, 90Nm, with PowerStack — S$310.00
- DeWalt DCD999N FlexVolt Advantage high torque hammer drill (bare) — S$317.40
- DeWalt DCK2050P1E1T 20V XR brushless combo set, hammer drill plus impact driver — S$705.00
Reading the model codes
- Bosch GSB — combi drill, has hammer. GSR — drill driver, no hammer. GBH — SDS rotary hammer.
- DeWalt DCD — drill. DCF — impact driver. DCK — combo kit of more than one tool.
Buying GSR when you needed GSB is the most common mistake we see. If you are fixing to concrete, read how to drill into an HDB wall.
Bare unit or kit?
Compare like with like. A bare unit is the tool only, and assumes you already hold batteries and a charger on that platform. A kit includes them, and is the right buy if you are starting fresh. The price gap between the two is usually most of the cost of the batteries, so a bare unit is only a bargain if you can actually power it. Browse batteries and chargers and combo kits.
So which should you buy?
Choose Bosch Professional if: concrete drilling is central to your work, you want the strongest value at entry and mid range, or you want one 18V system that scales with ProCORE.
Choose DeWalt if: your tools travel daily and storage matters, you want PowerStack's lighter packs, or your crew already runs 20V MAX batteries.
Consider Makita instead if you want a much larger range to grow into over time — see our three-way comparison.
